Pekin Jr. High Football Week 2

We had a pretty good couple of sessions this week. The kids are all working hard and are picking up on things quickly. We added in more competitive games and drills to complement our speed and agility technique work as well as some new resistance training and dynamic warm up movements.
As we continue over the next couple of weeks we will continue to progress into more advanced movements and add in some more competitive drills.

Pekin Jr. High Football Summer Training

Thursday was Power Sports Performance's first summer training session with the Pekin Jr. High Football teams. We are very excited for this opportunity! This is a great age to begin laying the foundation for future success and we are glad to be able to play a role in that!
We had a pretty good turn out for our first session. I was pleased with the overall work ethic of the group as well as their attentiveness and willingness to try the things we asked of them.
Our goal for this first session was to get acquainted with the kids as well as begin to teach them about proper warm up and stretching techniques, body weight and resistance training exercises, running mechanics, and nutrition basics.
We started our session with some foot quickness drills to get the body and mind going. Next we moved on to a series of dynamic warm up movements to get everyone loosened up for speed and agility work. From there we worked on different movements to teach good technique while running and changing direction.
We then moved on to our resistance training portion of the program where we worked on exercises that targeted the lower and upper body as well as the core/torso.
Our session was wrapped up with some competitive games and a discussion on nutrition and recovery.
I felt we covered a lot of ground in our first session, and the kids a did great job in all the areas we worked on.
Once again I would like to thank the kids for their time and effort, Coach Hadley for helping organize and run the session, and the parents for allowing your kids to participate in this program!
I will try to get some pictures and maybe some videos of some of the sessions and will post them up on the blog and on Facebook.
I'm looking forward to the next session!
